About Me

Patricia Potter

I am a free-lance violinist, violist, ensemble coach, community string orchestra conductor and music consultant in the Rogue Valley. I operate a private teaching studio in Ashland where I specialize in teaching violin and viola lessons and coaching string quartets and other ensembles. I have 21+ years experience teaching public school string classes and orchestras and my background is rich with music. I have performed with the Rogue Valley Symphony, the Oregon East Symphony, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival Association, the American Band College, Ballet Rogue, the Ashland Lithia String Trio and a host of other ensembles including the UCLA Symphonic Orchestra and the Lethbridge, Alberta Symphony Orchestra and String Quartet.

Growing up, our home was filled with music since my mother was a pianist and church organist. At age eight I began private lessons on violin and I studied under members of the L.A. Philharmonic throughout my school years. At UCLA I was a violin major and I later earned a Summa Cum Laude degree in music from McMaster University in Canada. Master teachers Shinichi Suzuki and George Bornoff and more recently electric violin master Mark Wood provided further training. My masters degree in education is from Southern Oregon University.

I have been a strings specialist and conductor for the Ashland School District as well as being a member of the "Artists in Education" program administered through the Oregon Arts Commission and the Southern Oregon Arts Council. I am a certified Oregon public school strings and orchestra teacher and have been a featured presenter at conferences for the Oregon Music Educators Association and the American String Teachers Association.
